Ok, we ALL have them....AWKWARD SCHOOL PICTURES. Let's be honest - it's hard to find anything flattering about school portraits. It reminds me of this hilarious website http://www.awkwardschoolpictures.com/. In defense of the school portrait, it's totally worth getting your child's picture taken every year as a sort of right of passage. But if you are like my mom and want a flattering picture to hang up on the wall for everyone to see, maybe try getting a professional one done! Here are some I did this year for my niece and nephews and my sisters. They are super easy and quick, and make such a difference in the decor of your home hanging on your wall. And don't forget that grandma and grandpa would love a nice one, too!

Jill came up to me at a church event shortly after we moved to Nebraska and asked "Where do I know you from?" It took me a second to register it and we realized that we knew each other from our jobs back in Utah! It hadn't been that long, but it was just the fact that neither of us expected to see each other at a church in Nebraska that caught us off guard. So funny! We've gotten the boys together a few times to play, and had fun doing a photo shoot, too. I'm glad we have a "friend from home" here!

I'm just going to start this post by saying that I NEVER have seen such a beautiful wedding day in the middle of a Utah December. Janalee called me while I was driving through Nebraska on my way home to Utah for the holidays. Her wedding was in a couple of weeks, and she wanted to see if I was available. Despite the fact that I didn't pack any clothes for a wedding, I had everything else I needed with me (somewhere in the car....it was packed pretty full!!) I'm so excited it worked out because it was such a great day. During our initial conversation, Janalee told me how much she was hoping for a white winter wedding. I don't blame her - the brown grass in the winter just doesn't make the most eye popping pictures. Unfortunately, these two didn't get their white winter wedding. But instead, they got a beautiful spring like day! (Warm enough that I took my baby to the park in between the wedding and reception!) I still cannot believe how warm and perfect it was. Luckily, we caught the blue skies since they turned grey right at the end of shooting.

I'm so happy for Tyler and Janalee. I am also friends with Tyler's twin sisters, so I know what a kind and sweet family he comes from. These two were so happy together, and it really was a joy working with them. I'm so happy it all worked out. So, CONGRATULATIONS Tyler and Janalee!

I've been having fun getting my business going in Omaha. It's refreshing to have different places to shoot, especially since I live downtown. Logan didn't exactly have sky scrapers! So I took this family downtown to do their pictures. I thought it was such a cute idea for Ashley to bring some of the boys favorite toys. I like the idea of having pictures to remember kids' favorite things twenty years from now. These little dudes did awesome, too, since it was kind of windy and chilly out. Such a cute family!

I'm so glad I got to see this family again when I went home. Tauni and Jordan were just married, and I barely missed being able to photograph their wedding because of my big move to Omaha. At least we got their engagement session and pre-shoot in before the move, but I was sad to miss their big day! I also love "Mamma T" and am very grateful for her in my life! She's one of those people that I can talk to about anything, and she's such a great person. I'm really happy with the way these pictures turned out. Fall pictures are always fun, so I'm happy we caught the colors at the right time. But seriously, any picture with little Matxy in it will be adorable. Look at those baby blues!

I don't know anyone who wouldn't love this little head of curls on Emma! This little girl has the cutest hair, and she's such a sweet and spunky girl. The family has a Christmas tree farm in their backyard, so it was the perfect place for their pictures. It was beautiful and serene and perfect for their shoot.

I'm SO HAPPY I got to take this family's photos when I was home in Utah! We didn't even have these scheduled, but after running into Em while I was in Logan, we set it up and made it happen. Em and her family are very special to me. I met Em when I was eight (?) years old. She's one of the only people in Utah that knew my "original" family from back in Ohio, and it is always so refreshing to get together with her and talk about the "old days." It was so fun being back in Logan for a few days over fall break. The fall colors are a lot more beautiful there then here in Omaha, so I really enjoyed the shoots I got to do too. I had SO MUCH FUN shooting in Preston, Idaho for this shoot! I had no idea how many neat places there were around there, and they are all right by each other. Harvey and my little Tim are about the same age, and they played so cute together when I brought Tim along to this shoot. Spring is finally here! And with that comes fields! I love field pictures, so needless to say, I love that we are finally getting good enough weather for the fields to be growing and dry. Jolynne wanted some family pictures done before her grandkids move away, so luckily the rain held up for a day and we were able to get these done for her. These kids were so cute with their grandma and uncles. It's always fun to watch uncles with their little nieces and nephews since uncles, (especially the young ones without their own kids yet), seem to have the most fun with the kids! One of my favorite perks to photography is being able to photograph events for people who are close to me. Jessica is one of those people. Jess and I worked together at a treatment center for teens. We became very close, and I can honestly say she is one my dearest friends. When Jess and Tyson FINALLY got engaged and she asked me to do their pictures, I was so excited. I've never done pictures at the Rexburg Temple, so it was also a great opportunity to shoot somewhere new. Despite the fact that we literally shot through about every weather scenario possible (pouring rain, bright sunshine, overcast skies, and extreme wind), I had a great time. These boys were hilarious to work with. It always surprises me when teenage boys have a good time getting pictures taken, and these kids were no different. From stacking themselves in a pyramid (their idea!) to taking their individual shots, these guys were so easy to work with. They are all the seniors on the Viewmont Baseball Team this year. I've been having lots of fun with "props" in shoots lately. I'm not a big props person usually, but when it's something that really shows the personality of who I'm shooting, I LOVE it! I think these little girls are so darling in their fairy princess outfits. Little Allie just frolicked around like she was a princess, and I love that her family and she will be able to look back at these pictures some day and remember what she was like at this age. It's so perfect! I also love that because she was playing, I was able to catch more "real" moments with her baby sister, Emma. I love the pictures of the two of them together - especially when it's not very posed.

I love that you can read the parents' minds in this shot - A day in the life of a mom and dad to two little girls! :)

McKell is a soon to be high school graduate, and came to me for some senior photos. I absolutely LOVE shooting seniors, and McKell was no exception. She is a cheerleader this year, too, so we were able to get a few shots of her in her uniform. She was so laid back, even though it was raining for us off and on the whole shoot. Baby Trevi is so adorable! I've never had a newborn so wide awake during a photo shoot, but she was just content trying to figure out what we were doing to her...for the most part! Trevi's parents went to school with my husband and I, so it was fun catching up with her mom during the shoot. It's crazy to think that we are all married and having kids now because I don't feel like I graduated seven years ago! It makes me feel old! I LOVE baby pictures in black and white. To me it shows the simpleness and beauty of a newborn. This darling little girl was such a sweetheart. She was so patient and just took the whole experience in. We wore her out though, and the poor little thing was so tired by the end! I love doing newborn sessions. It brings back so many memories of a year ago when I was blessed to have a newborn in my home. I was so happy when Tia called me to take some engagements for Beau and her. I know some of Tia's older siblings from high school, and since they are all great people, I knew Tia would be fun to work with too! I felt so bad for these two during the shoot. We rescheduled after a rainy day got in the way, and we when we woke up to find sun out the second time around, I thought it would be a great day. But it was only 34 degrees outside! The *B family is friends with my parents, and I was truly grateful they asked me to capture their family sealing day. I've always wanted to shoot a sealing for a family. I get to do it for couples all the time, but I think there is something extra special about knowing this family gets to be together forever now after their special day in the temple. It was also my first time shooting at the Oquirrh Mountain tempe. Much different than the very old Logan Temple that I'm used to, but fun to see it up close for the first time. It was about time for us to get some more pictures of Tim and Ila since they are up visiting! We are a very traditional family, so we love old fashioned, vintage dresses. My grandma found this dress for Ila, and we just had to do their little Easter portraits in it. These two are seriously so cute together. They have been having fun playing for the last few days. It's great to get them together and get a glimpse of what they will play like when they are older. Morgan wanted some mommy-daughter shots, too. Gorgeous!

I am SO happy that spring is making an appearance! I love taking pictures, but taking pictures during the not so exciting gray winter days just isn't my favorite! So when I saw that it was going to be warm and sunny for Jace and Jenna's shoot today, I was so excited! I am so happy for these two! Jenna is my husband's cousin. She is truly one of the most beautiful people I know, both inside and out. She is so genuinely sweet and kind, and is one of those people who makes me want to be a better person. While I don't know Jace all too well yet, it's fun to know that his cousin was one of my good friends when I lived in Ohio. Talk about small world!! Andrew and Ashley had a simply beautiful winter wedding. I loved the classy, traditional style that they chose for their day. It really seemed to fit them perfect. The venue where the reception was held was simply breathtaking. It was so vintage and adorable, I just absolutely fell in love with it! I really had a great day with these two and their families. Ashley's family and I go way back to my Ohio roots. We went to church together, and Ashley and I were close friends. Her family was one of the families that were really there to support my family as we struggled through my dad's sickness. It truly was wonderful to see all of them again and catch up. And it sounds like we'll get to see each other again soon when Ashley's cousin marries my husband's cousin in a few months. Small world!

Colin & Rachel were married on a rather cold day in December. They didn't let it ruin their perfect day though! I loved working with these two. Rachel has some of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen, and Colin wore some great custom ordered converse shoes that matched the colors down to the teal piping and purple accents. Colin and I go back to when I was about 14. His mom was one of my church leaders and we've been family friends since so it was great to see everyone and share this day with them.

My sister and I did these pictures for my mom a.k.a. "Grandma" for Christmas. I wish you could have seen the behind the scenes for these photos. It's a whole other story! I love our little elves and am so happy we actually did these pictures because this shoot has been in my mind since before little Ila was even born!

This is the second time I've had to opportunity to photograph these cute kids. A picture of Isabelle was chosen as one of the winners of the Christensen Photography photo contest a while back, but since this cute family lives in Colorado, they just got to use their prize! I'm so honored that they love my work enough to make the trips to Utah for me to take their pictures!

I love this family! Jeremy played on our Christensen Photography softball team this last summer, and Janalee was always willing to watch Tim so I could play, too! We've been friends for a couple years, and these two always make me laugh. They've got the cutest kids, Brynlee and Kale, and I love being around them. We were talking about how their kids are both at a hard age to photograph since the baby can't sit up and the toddler just likes to run around, but I thought we got some great shots regardless. There's finally some fall colors in the valley, and in my opinion, nothing beats a good pile of leaves!

Ashley and I go back to my days in Ohio. While editing her pictures, I was sitting here thinking about how crazy life is. Through various circumstances, both of us now live in Utah and I'm taking her wedding pictures! I never would have thought when we were little 12 year olds sitting at church together that this is where life was going to take us! I'm so excited for Ashley and Andrew. While shooting these pictures, I got to see how in love these two are. I can't wait for the wedding and catching up with the rest of Ashley's family. Congrats you two!

Ann is an only child and she just had her first baby. Needless to say, Grandma and Grandpa wanted some updated pictures with the cute new little one and with only five people, this shoot was fun and easy! It was great to meet little Marcus, too, since Ann and I would run into each other a lot at our doctor's appointments when we were both pregnant. It's fun to see other little guys around the same age as mine. This cute kid was too fun. SO smiley and happy!

Jenna is my husband's cousin. She left on a mission for our church, and we grabbed some of these pictures for her before she left. The missionary tag she's holding has been all over the world with all the family missionaries. My husband was the last one to use it so we had to get the "passing of the tag" picture even though it's an elder badge. We love you Sister Christensen!

Jorge and Arielle are a beautiful, funny, and fun couple! I love when couples want pictures that really explain their relationship, and that's how it goes with these two. Jorge and Arielle love bowling together, so they told me a few weeks back that they wanted their pre-shoot at the Preston, Idaho bowling alley. They said it was the perfect amount of retro but still in great shape. So we planned to do the first part of their shoot there. The day of the shoot, Arielle found out the bowling alley was closed for upkeep! We were a little bummed, but decided we would still go and do the rest of the shoot. Well, Arielle's mom was persistent and got permission from the owners of Pop n Pins to go take pictures there! With a call to the Preston City Offices, then a city board member, she was able to get a hold of the owner who was more than happy to let us in. I'm so glad too! This was easily one of my favorite wedding shoots ever! As you can tell, I couldn't pick just a few favorites ;) Can't wait to photograph the wedding on Saturday!

I met this awesome family a couple of years ago when I took their family pictures. Since then, we have become great friends! Kristen, the mom, does foot zoning and makes all natural products I use on my baby. Morgan, the dad, is running for congress in Utah. And the kids - well, they are just all WAY TOO FUN to be around! This family has a lot in common with my family, so I just love to be around them.

This family did a BIG family reunion in Bear Lake, and wanted a picture to remember it by. We hoped for some shady skies since I didn't really know of any good areas to take a big family shot at, but when the day came we had all blue skies! Luckily, one of the couples scouted out this nice little camping trail that offered enough shade to get these pictures. It was a great spot for a very fun family!

I met this cute family when I was around 12 years old! Our families were good family friends in Ohio. We enjoyed swimming and playing together, and I even babysat these kids, too! I was so excited that Kirsten wanted me to take her kids' pictures while they visiting Utah for a family reunion. It was a great excuse to make sure I got to see them, and I had a great time photographing these VERY photogenic kids. Despite some rain drops and a snake at one location, we got some great shots.

Lisa and I made this little tutu for Miss Lily Bug, and she rocked it!! These were such fun pictures to take. We got some pics of Lily a few months back, but she wasn't feeling too well that day and didn't really show her bubbly personality. Well, this little Diva came to life today. I wanted to go to Farmington to see my little sister, Emma all dressed up for prom. That turned into a full photo shoot with her entire prom group, and it was a blast! I loved seeing all the unique dresses, although it made me realize how long ago I was in high school since the styles are all different now. These kids were great to work with, and it's always fun to take photos of new people like this prom group!

Ms. Lily Bug is 6 months old, so we needed to do some pictures for her. I watch her some mornings while her mom goes to work, and she is usually the happiest baby there is! She smiles ALL the time...except today!! We couldn't capture her teethy smile (she has 6 teeth!), so hopefully we'll get some more of her soon. We don't think she was feeling well today, so all in all, she did pretty well!

The Snelgroves are old neighbors of mine from when I lived up on campus. They are one of the kindest couples I know! A while ago, Christine sent out an email to let her friends know that Curt and she were going through the adoption process. I immediately wanted to help in any way I could because my husband and I had looked into adoption before we FINALLY got pregnant. From my own experience, I felt like I had very few things I could control in regards to starting our family, but ONE thing I could control was having good family pictures to put on an adoption profile. Obviously we never used our pictures we had taken because we found out I was expecting, but I wanted to help Curt and Christine out with having attention grabbing pictures for their profile. It was a snowy day in Logan when we did the pictures, but these two were so happy and easy going so we had a great shoot!

This family was so fun to work with and SO DANG CUTE!! It was an overcast day perfect for pictures....until about an hour before the shoot. So we had to deal with bright skies, but I think they still turned out great. Myka, the little girl, was to die for! Just look at those "baby blues." She was such a trooper in the cold, especially since she was a little sick and very tired. What a fun family!
